Greetings, and welcome to the website of the Upsilon Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated! Upsilon Eta Omega was chartered on April 29, 1995 in Fairfield, Alabama, after 19 dynamic women, formerly known as the Valley Pearls Interest Group, shared in the vision of forming a second chapter within the Birmingham metropolitan area.
Under our current international program, “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service”, and under the leadership of our international president, Dr. Glenda Glover, we continue to exemplify sisterhood and service by enhancing the educational and socio-economic environment of the community through our program initiatives.
Our “Excellence” program covers five program targets: Think HBCU, Women’s Healthcare and Wellness, Building Your Economic Legacy, The Arts, and Global Impact. Within these target initiatives we are promoting the sustainability of historically Black colleges and universities, as well as providing scholarships to well deserving students to attend college. We are raising awareness of breast cancer prevention and caregiver support, supporting Black entrepreneurship and offering financial literacy and credit repair education, promoting the Harlem Renaissance and Black Arts Movement, and offering assistance to African refugees, the homeless, and providing clothing to boys and girls in Haiti. We also foster national partnerships with Experian, Lions Club International, Regions, and Soles 4 Soles, to name a few.
Through the chapter’s charitable arm, the Valley Pearls Service Foundation, we have awarded scholarships in excess of $100,000 to deserving boys and girls to attend college, some first-generation attendees, as well as support other entities under our national platform, such as Operation AKA Assist, where we provide assistance to the homeless, veterans, and even assist in ESL programs (English as a Second Language).
Our 2019-2020 administration’s theme is “Forging Forward in Unity and Service”. We are striving daily to accomplish this by strengthening the bonds of our sisterhood so we can in turn be of “service to all mankind”. We invite you to visit and follow us through our social media platforms- Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, support our many fundraising efforts and events, and join us in the community as we offer valuable services to our fellow man.
Thank you again for visiting our site, and we hope that in perusing our pages you will experience the positive impact we are making within the community, all in the spirit of sisterhood and excellence!
"Forging Forward In Unity and Service"
Sincerely,
