The Upsilon Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. partnered with the American Heart Association for Pink Goes Red for a Day on Friday February 3rd. Upsilon Eta Omega held a health fair to disseminate information provided by the American Heart Association on heart disease and strokes and provide blood pressure screenings at the Riverchase Galleria Mall in Hoover, AL. Upsilon Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. partnered with The Birmingham Salvation Army to donate toys for the Christmas Season as a part of the sorority’s Social Justice and Human Rights Initiative. The sorority’s program targets services for children of incarcerated parents, among other groups. On the morning of October 15, 2011, members of the Upsilon Eta Omega chapter gathered to support the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. It was a cool but warming morning, and members joined over 20,000 others whom gathered to race for the cure. The race began and ended in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama, at Linn Park. This race promotes awareness for the fight against breast cancer, as well as raising significant funds to aide in research for the ongoing battle of this disease. On Saturday January 14, 2012, Upsilon Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., joined the Birmingham Metro Diversity Coalition at the second annual MLK, Jr. Unity Walk held at Railroad Park. The 2012 Emerging Young Leaders Mentees were also in attendance to begin their year of learning, service and civic awareness. The Unity Walk theme was "Unity with a Purpose: Nutritional Disparities." The program began at 11:30 am with speakers to bring about awareness and action in the fight against nutritional inequality in our community.
